As a result of these policies, the Japan's economy has entered an unprecedented deflationary spiral, despite the fact that Japan has been one of the greatest economic powers on earth, with 1,400 trillion yen in financial assets and 400 billion dollars reserve in foreign currency.

In the election for party president scheduled for this September, we will put forward an appropriate candidate who can take the place of Mr. Koizumi and introduce our policies, which put top priority on economic recovery. We will use this opportunity to select the three senior LDP officials and the primary economic ministers to clarify the policy objectives of the new administration and establish a fully functioning administration that will steer Japan in the right direction.
